3.6 The Program Menu
The program menu contains items which are primarily associated with controlling
the behavior of the GUI, and your interaction with the program. In general
these options do not directly effect the data reduction process.
The Program :: Program Properties menu creates a small sub-window
which contains the following checkbutton toggle switches.
- Widget help
-
The widget help button, turns the widget help feature on and off. The
widget help is the feature which pops up a small window containing a
hopefully helpful hint about the usage of the widget currently under the
pointer. This feature is supposed to be unobtrusive, so if you find
yourself needing to turn it off, it has failed to meet its design goal!
- Remember sub-window locations
-
Turns off the program feature whereby sub-windows automatically return
to the location you last moved them to relative to the main window.
This feature can interact badly with some virtual window managers,
leading to windows being displayed off-screen of the main window gets
re-positioned.
- Save properties
-
Toggles the automatic save feature, whereby properties are saved across
program invocation. The saving of all data is currently lumped under on
category, so turning this off will also prevent the saving of current
data reconstruction configurations and sequences.
This is a simple command, which closed all popup windows. The command can be
used to quickly clean up the display. Sometimes the automatic
positioning of sub-windows relative to the main window, can cause a
window to be displayed off-screen. The only way to retrieve such a
window is to use the Program :: close all popups menu command,
turn off Remember window locations in
Program :: Program Properties, then re-open the offending window.
If this happens to you frequently, you should leave the
Remember window locations permanent turned off.
If you always like to set up a sub-set of the program sub-windows in a
particular way when using the program, you can use this dialog to record,
or retrieve this arrangement. The procedure is as follows:
- Arrange your chosen sub-windows to your satisfaction.
- Select the Program :: Window management menu-item.
- On the resulting popup window hit the read button to read the location
of all open windows.
- De-select the Window Management (top of the list) radio button, if you
don't want to have this window as part of your preferred configuration.
- Close the Window Management sub-window.
Now when you exit the program, your preferred configuration will be recorded.
To invoke your preferred configuration, select the
Program :: Window management menu item.
On the resulting sub-window
hit either the Rel or Abs buttons. The Rel button, positions
windows relative to the main window, the Abs button positions
windows to the same screen position in which they were recorded.
