3.7 The image display
The program contains two image display areas which are used to provide visual
feedback to the program user.
To conserve colour map space, both of these displays share the same
colour map. We do not support dynamic changing of the colour map since
this is not available on all displays, particularly 16 and 24 bit
frame buffers.
By clicking the right mouse button on the display area a dialog can be
caused to appear which allows access to some additional functionality
within the display. When this dialog is active you can take a slice
through any image by clicking the left mouse button on the start of
the section you wish to take, moving the mouse and then releasing the
left button to complete the line. Linear interpolation is used to
produce a smooth line. Due to the interpolation the section will
not reflect the exact values in the underlying pixels, an effect
most noticeable at high magnification. If exact values are required
these should be acquired directly by placing the mouse over the
required pixel.
