I got a bit distracted from the open cluster x,y files, and have dug up positions for stars in the distant nebulous cluster NGC 1624. The main work on the field is by Tony Moffat and colleagues (1979A&AS...38..197M, MFJ below), and I've used their numbering scheme in the table. They provide UBV photometry and some spectral types. Hunter & Massey (1990AJ.....99..846H, HM below) have also obtained spectral types for two stars. The photometry is copied from MFJ, and the types are from HM except for star 4. Could the red star 6 be an M-type supergiant? (2MASS J-K=1.3.) Note that the Lynds bright nebulae names LBN 722 = LBN 155.43+02.63 apply fairly strictly to the nebula, not the open cluster as in SIMBAD, and so should be moved to the Sh2-212 entry, thus: Sh 2-212 = LBN 722 = LBN 155.43+02.63 = [L89b] 155.357+02.609 = (probably) DW 0436+50 It is not clear (to me) how the various molecular clouds and IRAS sources in the area relate to the visible HII region, so these should be left separate for now. The cluster coordinates (and that of Sh2-212) can be defined as that of the central O star "MFJ 2" at: 4 40 37 +50 27.7 (2000). Incidentally, Deidre Hunter once showed me a print of a deep I-band image of this object. The cluster was revealed to be an impressively rich object, far denser than what's shown by the POSS-I blue or red plates. It's quite an object 15kpc from the galactic center! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coordinates and identifications for stars in NGC 1624 version: 9 Jul 2003 (2MASS positions substituted) source: 1979A&AS...38..197M MOFFAT A.F.J., FITZGERALD M.P., and JACKSON P.D.
