The attached plain-text file is a moderately complete compendium of UBV photoelectric and photographic photometry for the large southern open cluster NGC 5822. Some of the stars are in SIMBAD variously with semi-accurate or precise coordinates. The principal list is that of Twarog et al, who provided photoelectric and photographic photometry for some 600 stars. All their stars with data were identified by comparing their chart against screen plots of UCAC2. (The chart was quite difficult to work with and I'm sick of staring at the damn thing!) Non-UCAC2 stars were dealt with individually, mainly using the Goddard SkyView utility, and then looking up the stars in VizieR. The UCAC2 or 2MASS coordinates are shown (plus one star from UCAC3) along with UCAC2 numbers and all the photoelectric UBVR and photographic UBV data. This combines the Twarog Tables 1 and 5. This list also shows HD/CD/CPD identifications, IRAS and MSX IDs for very red stars, and comments about double/crowded stars. As a complement to this data, I have identified stars in the shorter lists by Bruck et al, Claria et al, and Jennens & Helfer. From Bruck et al comes the early photoelectric sequences by Haffner for both NGC 5822 and nearby NGC 5823, which are not published elsewhere. Twarog et al find at least the NGC 5822 sequence to be consistent with their data given modest errors. Claria et al, however show there is a ~0.06 mag offset in the V magnitudes between Haffner and Jennens & Helfer. The photographic data of Bruck et al is rather poor, and it is easy to see why. The B filter for the ADH Schmidt was damaged, and they were forced to use a smaller filter, and the main part of the cluster lay near the edge of the region covered by the filter. (In nearby NGC 5823, many of the photoelectric standards were outside the useful region, and the results for that cluster are even worse.) Both Claria et al and Jennens & Helfer observed only the bright K giants in the cluster region. They adopted the numbering schemes of either Bruck et al or Bozkurt. (Bozkurt used the Haffner sequence for photographic photometry of NGC 5822, resulting in another poor dataset.) These three short lists of photoelectric data for the giants are shown at the top of the present file with Twarog et al numbers added along with coordinates. I note that Claria et al provided Washington CMT1T2 system photometry for their stars. It seems it would be useful to transform this to VRIc to provide additional red colors for the giants. I include the Haffner sequence for NGC 5823 here. Yesterday I sent the two NGC 5823 sequences by Schnur to the CDS and to Ernst for inclusion in WEBDA. There is more photoelectric data for that cluster yet to be worked on. Finally, Giovanni Carraro apparently has new CCD photometry in the works for NGC 5822. His questions to me about astrometry for the cluster is what prompted the present effort. He suggests there is a small scale error in the Twarog photographic data for V > 14. There are few faint standards at this level, so such an error is not surprising. Since there are large numbers of plates involved, it would probably be useful to determine and apply a correction in order to beef up the (single night?) CCD results.
