This list is mainly to clear off stray items from my desk. It gives coordinates and IDs for stars in the field of NGC 6819 observed by Alois Purgathofer during a visit to Lowell Observatory in the early 1960s. He used the now-defunct 1.1-m telescope on Mars Hill. This telescope was mounted ~2 meters underground in hopes that the temperature would be more stable than otherwise, and let the plate-glass mirror retain its figure better. This I think was successful, but the location also placed it under the local inversion layer, so the seeing was almost always poor--- the images were lousy after all. Purgathofer describes this problem in the opening paragraph of his paper. I show the usual identifications (and only Tycho-2 names for the bright stars) along with the UBV data. I did a 2' radius search in SIMBAD on all the stars, and show SIMBAD cluster names to the extent they were identifiable. The missing ones are probably present in SIMBAD, but I could not recover them. The cluster clearly needs to be gone over in a comprehensive way to sort out the various nomenclature messes, so this is just a small start. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coordinates and identifications for Purgathofer stars in NGC 6819 version: 23 Oct 2006 source: 1966MiWie..13....7P PURGATHOFER A.
