The lists below deal with accurate coordinates for faint blue stars in the field of Praesepe. The bulk of the stars come from the two studies by Anthony-Twarog. However, it looks as though several problems have been caused by erroneous identifications in the recent paper by Claver et al. (2001ApJ...563..987C), where six of ten stars in their main table have problems. These have unfortunately percollated into SIMBAD. Since they are a source of confusion, the first list shows the status of the Claver et al. stars. My assessment is that the coordinates they show are usually correct, but that the IDs are messed up. The table lists the nominal ID followed by the correct ID, and a recent-epoch position if necessary. (The GSC-2.2 positions have uncertainties of ~0".25 at epoch.) Those without positions are shown again in the Anthony-Twarog lists that follow. In the case of Claver 'LB 6072', either the ID or the position is in error. There are no obvious candidates near the published position either in the LB catalogue or in USNO-A2.0, Cambridge APM-North, or GSC-2.2; the true position of LB 6072 is not at a place where a simple typo has occurred. Lost for now. The Anthony-Twarog lists were straightforward to deal with, requiring mainly identification of the LB stars on the unlabelled Luyten chart. N.B. many stars are duplicated between her 1982 and 1984 papers. =============================================================================== Coordinates and identifications for faint blue stars in Praesepe version: 15 Mar 2002 position sources (column 's'): A USNO-A2.0 (1998USNO2.C......0M, I/252) C APM-North (I/267) G GSC-ACT (1999GSCTy.C......0G, I/255) g GSC-2.2 (2001GSC2..C......0S, I/271) M 2MASS second release (20002MASS.2.......:, B/2mass/out) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- source: 2001ApJ...563..987C (Table 3) Name status LB 390 wrong ID: should be LB 393 = EGGR 61 LB 5893 OK LB 1876 wrong ID: _probably_ should be LB 5926: 8 39 56.31 +20 03 41.5 (2000, GSC-2.2, ep 1989.85) LB 393 wrong ID: should LB 390 = EGGR 59 WD 0838+202 = LB 6059: 8 41 39.79 +19 00 08.1 (2000, GSC-2.2, ep 1989.85) LB 1847 OK LB 6072 wrong position: nothing near (correct LB 6072 shown below) LB 1839 position is for eq 1950 WD 0834+209 OK, new star: 8 37 11.53 +20 40 57.0 (2000, GSC-2.2, ep 1993.94) LB 6037 wrong ID: _probably_ should be LB 5961: 8 40 25.10 +20 05 34.0 (2000, GSC-2.2, ep 1989.85) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- source: 1982ApJ...255..245A (Table 6, photometric sequence) AT82 RA (J2000) Dec s V B-V remarks 22057 8 38 29.86 +19 37 19.1 M 16.83 0.82 22078 8 38 36.04 +19 42 06.4 M 16.23 0.85 33081 8 40 13.45 +19 46 43.7 M 13.12 1.05 GSC 1395-2317; member? 35021 8 40 30.04 +19 53 00.2 M 17.51 1.52 35022 8 40 29.42 +19 52 23.1 A 20.22 0.87 35024 8 40 30.01 +19 51 52.5 A 19.26 0.58 35028 8 40 34.53 +19 51 51.3 M 16.90 0.73 37019 8 40 35.87 +19 53 39.3 M 18.00 0.89 46032 8 40 42.78 +19 35 14.3 M 17.22 1.07 47005 8 40 19.73 +19 26 58.0 M 16.51 1.42 member? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- source: 1982ApJ...255..245A ANTHONY-TWAROG B.J.
