The list below contains results of an objective-prism spectral survey of over 800 stars in the region of the Praesepe cluster published by J\"oran M. Ramberg in 1941 (1941StoAn..13i...1R). I have keyed in his data and added J2000 positions and names from the GSC v1.1. HD and BD names are included as well. The survey is complete down to V ~12, or roughly to K0V stars among cluster members. Ramberg quotes positions from the classic Vanderlinden 1933 monograph on the cluster, and I have included Vanderlinden names for every star here (equivalent to "Cl* NGC 2632 VL xxxx" in SIMBAD). Other names are not included for the moment because it turns out that there is quite a mess in SIMBAD among identifications for stars in the central part of the cluster. These arise from inclusion of identifications appearing in the proper-motion study by Wang et al. (1995A&AS..113..419W). In particular their Table 8, available in machine-readable form from the data centers, should not be used to get star IDs for earlier work. The positions and motions themselves seem to be fine---just avoid the IDs and quoted magnitudes. A list of some 400 corrections has been supplied to the CDS folks, but it will probably take a couple of iterations to sort everything out. The present GSC v1.1 positions and VL names are unambiguous, in any case, and add greatly to spectral data for both cluster members and field stars in a 3.5x3-degree oval region centered at: 8 40 24 +19 39.8 (J2000). The file shows Ramberg's numbers in the first column. However, since the correspondence with VL is complete (second column), I would recommend avoiding Ramberg's numbers completely. An asterisk by the Ramberg number indicates a note at the end of the file. The succeeding columns show the GSC positions (to 1" precision) and GSC names. The column 'mb' gives Ramberg's photographic-blue magnitudes. These were taken from VL after applying a systematic correction to bring them onto the old International photographic system (Vanderlinden's data has a modest scale error). They are similar to Johnson B. They are intended here mostly for purposes of identification; photoelectric data should be used if available. The spectral types follow. In general these seem to be reliable and consistent with other work. If the Ramberg and other sources differ by half a spectral class, I have quoted the other type, often with a note suggesting which is correct based on photometric colors and/or proper motions. For the A and early-F stars differences may arise because different spectral features were used for the determination, and it was usually not possible to decide unambiguously whether, for instance, a metallic-line A star is involved. The main point here is to note that the MK classifications cited in SIMBAD are not always better than Ramberg's types.
