The stars in Trumpler 27 are a bit of a mess due to lack of coordinates and some misidentifications in the field. The cluster was first observed by The' & Stokes, who numbered stars up to 72. Some additional numbers were added by Moffat et al., and finally intervening numbers were filled in by Bakker & The'. All this is sorted out below using the finder charts from all three papers. Many of the stars appear in SIMBAD without coordinates, while others have approximate or accurate positions. The stars added by Bakker & The' are not present in SIMBAD. I show 'best' coordinates for all the stars, mainly from UCAC2 or 2MASS. Identifications include HD/CD/CPD names, plus GSC and Tycho-2 numbers. As a guide I give rounded V magnitudes compiled from photoelectric, CCD, and photographic photometry. For the Bakker & The' stars, I have transformed their Walraven V to Johnson V using: Vj = 6.874 - 2.5[Vw + 0.065(V-B)]. This is valid in principle only for unreddened stars, but the rounded V's should be useful as a placeholder in SIMBAD. Comparison of a few stars with UBV photometry and Tycho-2 data suggest there is no problem at the 0.1-mag level shown here. Also collected are spectral types from the more recent paper by Massey et al. (2001AJ....121.1050M), from Moffat et al., and a few from elsewhere in the literature. Due to the strong reddening, many of the HDE classifications for the early-type stars are in error (I've not mentioned them here). Although I did not check it accurately, the Dias et al. cluster center is reasonably close. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coordinates and identifications for stars in Trumpler 27 version: 25 Nov 2003 sources: stars 1- 72: 1970A&A.....5..298T THE P.S. and STOKES N.
