I have started working through the large list of southern OB stars by Garrison et al (1977ApJS...35..111G). I had hoped that getting the positions would be straightforward, but due to a couple of factors, SIMBAD is again somewhat messy as regards these stars. Part of this comes from the use of CPD names in the "traditional" CD zone, which has led to double entries in SIMBAD. There are also missing or incorrect HD numbers involved. Perhaps these omissions and typos derive from the original Heidelberg finding list (1966VeHei..18....9K), but I have not checked this. At any rate, the list below (part 1 of "many") shows simple IDs in SIMBAD and several more complicated mix-ups. These, alas, apply to only the first 50 stars of ~1100. The combined error rate is almost 50 percent. If the explanations for stars with mixed data are not clear, please let me know, and I'll try again. \Brian CPD-20 2167 = BD-20 1831 BD-20 1834 = CPD-20 2170 HD 57236 = CPD-21 2019 BD-20 1866 = CPD-20 2245 HD 57613 = CPD-20 2264 CPD-19 2072 = GEN# +6.10170021 CPD-19 2082 = CCDM J07221-2004AB CPD-20 2303 = BD-20 1890 (= TYC 5978-2143-1 = UCAC2 23570457) BD-20 1891 = CPD-20 2305 BD-20 1896 = CPD-20 2314 HD 58321 = CPD-20 2343 HD 58416 = CPD-20 2357 BD-20 1946 = CPD-20 2437 HD 60553 = CPD-19 2352 LS 558 = CPD-21 2364 = FAUST 1229 BD-21 2021 = FAUST 1255 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CPD-20 2365 = HD 58465: GHS call this pair HD 58509, but this is another (single) star in the same cluster (NGC 2384), and was also observed by GHS. this slip seems to have been caught already, but N.B. the conflicting spectral types between GHS (O8V + B0.5III) and Houk (B7Ib/II) --- perhaps the overlaps caused confusion on Houk's objective-prism plates. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CPD-25 2290: coords and header B,V data etc are okay, but not GEN# -0.02504446 = Hbg 27 = uvby98 -002504446 --- due to a typo in the CPD number in GHS, data blocks and most biblio for this star apply instead to nearby CPD-25 2291 --- move UBV and H-beta data blocks to CPD-25 2291 --- spectral type A2 is okay; V = 9.21, B = 9.44 are okay --- biblio: 1983A&AS...52..299S (delete remainder) CPD-25 2291 = GEN# -0.02504446 = Hbg 27 = uvby98 -002504446 --- coords and header B,V etc are okay --- add UBV, H-beta data blocks from CPD-25 2290 --- add biblio: 1983ApJS...51..321S 1979RMxAA...4..351A 1977ApJS...35..111G --- MK type B2V (1977ApJS...35..111G) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HD 58673: GHS equates this in error with CPD-26 2106, leading again to a mix-up in SIMBAD; the OB star is indeed CPD-26 2106 --- header and data blocks etc are okay --- delete biblio: 1983ApJS...51..321S 1979RMxAA...4..351A 1977ApJS...35..111G Glazar 0723-26 = CPD-26 2106 = TYC 6546-3016-1 = UCAC2 20799771 --- V = 10.18, B-V = -0.12, U-B = -0.56 (1983ApJS...51..321S) --- beta = 2.684 (Hauck compilation, but original source ?) --- MK type B6V (1977ApJS...35..111G) --- add biblio: 2001A&A...368..912Y 1983ApJS...51..321S 1979RMxAA...4..351A 1977ApJS...35..111G 1977MmRAS..84..119W ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CPD-21 2238: GHS call this HD 59498 in error, it is instead HD 59497 (HD 59497 lies _east_ of HD 59498); again, practically all the SIMBAD entry of -98 applies to -97 as follows HD 59498: header okay, but not GEN# +1.00059498 = uvby98 100059498 --- delete UBV and H-beta data blocks --- delete all biblio HD 59497 = CPD-21 2238 = GEN# +1.00059498 = uvby98 100059498 (from HD 59498) --- UBV etc are okay --- add UBV and H-beta data blocks from HD 59498 The next 50 stars of the GHS list are in much better shape in SIMBAD.
