The list below shows accurate coordinates and basic data extracted from the list of ~130 carbon stars published by Barnbaum et al. In the first two-thirds of the list, I have adopted types as shown in the on-line MK catalogue available at OSU (http://www-astronomy.mps.ohio-state.edu/MKCool), but have added the remaining stars from the 1996 list. Thus the list below represents the original file as amended (up to 14h RA) by Keenan. A fairly serious problem with the published list, the file available from the Strasbourg VizieR service, as well as the OSU on-line file is that the lists have an unaccecptably high rate of typos (~10%) in all the essential columns: star-name, coordinates, magnitudes, and in the types themselves. This makes many of the stars unrecoverable in machine-based search utilities such as the Strasbourg VizieR. For the present list, I have obtained 'best' coordinates mostly from Tycho-2, but also other high-accuracy sources when a star is either not in Tycho-2 or has a poor position there. I have also sought standard V magnitudes as available, either inferred from Tycho-2 or obtained from other "real" photometry (inevitably poorly calibrated); some remain as estimates. The types are taken directly from the OSU file for stars west of 14h RA, and additional stars from the 1996 list are added in. A + sign in the column immediately prior to the type itself indicates stars considered to be standards on the revised Barnbaum-Keenan scheme. At the top of the list I show types shown for eight barium stars given in the carbon stars paper. These types differ from those listed in the 1989 Keenan & McNeil catalogue both in temperature type and in barium-strength index. N.B. also the stray A-type star (HD 161208 b), which is a resolved visual companion to HD 161208.
