The lists below show precise coordinates, photometry, and identifications for candidate carbon stars and some other M-type stars published by Le Bertre et al. (2003A&A...403..943L). Because the authors provided no accurate coordinates nor external IDs besides likely IRAS links---often very distant, the objects have been added into SIMBAD as new entries rather than being linked with existing stars. This has added an annoying amount of clutter to SIMBAD because of the long acronym. Gerard Jasniewicz has fused many entries already at my suggestion, but most still remain to be done. Since there is wider interest in them, I have worked over the complete list of carbon stars. All but a few are known objects, but many still have soft positions in SIMBAD, and also lack magnitudes or external IDs (IRAS etc). In general the stars were recovered by finding the nearest 2MASS source with similar K magnitude as published by Le Bertre et al. This was straightforward from examination of a 2MASS image cutout (18'x18') from the Goddard SkyView utility. Nearly always the match in brightness is quite close, considering nearly all are substantially variable (even at K). To show that this is so, I give the 2MASS Ks magnitude along with the original K and K-L' data. I have rounded the 2MASS magnitudes since most are close to or in the saturated regime. (Lots of these "new" detections are bright enough to be in the IRC catalogue.) Since they are useful for other purposes, I also show V and I magnitudes, sometimes rather approximate, but better than nothing. These come from many disparate sources: TASS MkIV catalogue, ASAS-3, USNO-B1.0, GSC-2.2, SuperCOSMOS, the IRC, and even real photoelectric observations. With the precise positions in hand, an ordinary search in VizieR provided other IDs, which I took from the GSC-ACT, MSX6C, and CGCS3. I also searched every object in SIMBAD (3' radius) to find additional names. Typically there are three of these: the carbon star, the unlinked IRAS source, and the NIRS entry. All these of course should be merged. One star was found in the IRAS faint-source catalogue. As best I could tell, every carbon star is correctly linked with the relevant IRAS object by the authors. More specifically, the IRAS sources have nearly identical K magnitudes in 2MASS and this paper---and objects this bright at K (i.e. very bright) are uncommon in the 2MASS catalogue. Thus the carbon stars and the larger list of M stars can be confidently matched with the IRAS entries in SIMBAD. Since there is not much new information about the oxygen-rich stars, I have treated only those lacking an IRAS ID by the authors. These are shown in the second part of the table. Many do have an IRAS ID after all, and that column is filled in (some faint-source IDs here, too). In several instances I show an "alternate" object.
